Question by L.: I am confused using “like” as a verb. Can I use “like” this way:”I like an apple” instead of ” I like apples”?
Please explain in details the grammar behind using plural form of objects when using “like”. I like cats. If possible give examples too. I am a second language speaker so it’s a little difficult to understand. Thanks everyone for your help. =)

In English, we say “I like apples” to show that, in general we like that fruit.
If you said “I like an apple” it sounds a little weird and makes it seems as though there is a particular single apple that you like! The only way it works is if the sentence continues, for example,: I like an apple with my dinner

Q&A: I am confused with subject/verb agreement. Can a person say, “If one do not know the answer, …”?

Question by BUTCH666: I am confused with subject/verb agreement. Can a person say, “If one do not know the answer, …”?
Can I say, “If one do not know the answer,….” or must I say, “If one does not know the answer,…” I realize the subject and verb have to agree, but some say, “If I were a bird,”…. the subject and verb do not agree here.

I want to use the verb compatir which means to share.Which -ir- verb is to be used? If you know, please explain to me why.

Best answer:

Answer by brokenhart
Tu y yo “compartimos” unos plátanos “con” Luis y Roberta.
Explain you why? Sure! The verb changes according to the person:
Yo comparto,
Tu compartes
Vos compartís
Él/ella comparte
Nosotros compartimos
Ustedes comparten
Vosotros compartís
Ellos comparten
All you’ve got to do, is to learn every verb by memorizing them!
Wait! I forgot one: vois compartís.
