who we are

LeAnne and Moxie met while working at a before and after school enrichment program four years ago. Being similarly inspired by emergent curriculum, extreme silliness and child-centered guidance, they became creative co-conspirators and have been collaborating ever since.

Moxie lives in a house with her husband and their two bunnies. The ratio of bunnies to people is equal, but the bunnies are clearly in charge.

LeAnne lives in a house with two roommates and a part-time dog named Ellee. Ellee knows how to play hide and seek.

Moxie and LeAnne can wave to each other from their respective porches.

Old School Nitty Gritty:
LeAnne Laux-Bachand has a BA in English Literature from the University of Chicago. She has also taken poetry workshop courses with the Experimental College of the University of Washington and Early Childhood Education classes at North Seattle Community College. LeAnne has volunteered at 826 Seattle, the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington, the Richard Hugo House, and the University Unitarian Church, where she is now the Young Adult Program Coordinator. LeAnne has worked with children and youth of all ages, and for the last four years she has taught in before and after school programs. She likes to write poetry and short stories.

LeAnne filled in these blanks:

I prefer rollerskating and bowling to having my teeth cleaned..

I prefer not to chew gum.

I believe in the power of making up songs and singing them.

A groundhog puppet makes me giggle.

This year, I plan to bake cookies in Minneapolis.

Art is for making any day better.

Old School Nitty Gritty:
Moxie started working with children over 15 years ago in the Bay Area, where she facilitated communication workshops for teenagers at several highschools, taught art to pre-school children and completed graphic design school in San Francisco. Since moving to Seattle, she has taken several life-changing courses at North Seattle Community College’s ECE department. For the last three years, Moxie has been the Director of a high-quality before and after school enrichment program. She is a STARS-approved trainer in the core areas of Child Guidance and Communications.

Moxie is almost constantly making things with her hands, giggling and changing her hair color.

Moxie filled in these blanks:

I prefer questions to answers.

I prefer not to sleep.

I believe in the power of paper, pencil and postage.

Authority makes me giggle.

This year, I plan to blow bubbles in extraordinary places.

Art is for progress.
